Harbor GraphX: a print shop that answers every call
Harbor GraphX is a sign, print and vehicle graphics shop at 2545 Orchard Lake Road in Sylvan Lake, Michigan. Bold Reach set up its AI phone agent, rebuilt its website around a priced catalogue, and built the design studio customers use to make their own cards, signs and shirts.
Full disclosure: Jack, who runs Bold Reach, co-owns Harbor GraphX with his brother Justin. It is the shop where we try everything first, so nothing here was written by a client being polite.
The phone rings while the press is running
A print shop counter is often one person deep. When that person is on an install, at the cutter or with a customer, the phone rings out, and a business that wanted 500 cards by Friday calls the next shop on the list.
The website had the same gap. It could not show a price or take a design, so every order started with a call or a visit, and both need someone free at the counter.
Three pieces, each doing one job
A phone agent on the missed calls
When the shop does not pick up, the call forwards to an AI agent that answers in the shop's name, day or night. It finds out what the caller needs, takes a name and number, and sends the details on so a person can call back. It will not quote a price, promise a turnaround or confirm an order; those stay with a person. Asked directly, it says it is an automated assistant.
A catalogue with the price on the page
Customers can shop by the kind of business they run, not just by product. The shop's main products carry prices from its own price guide, with options and quantity on the product page, so a customer knows the number before they ring. Upload a logo once and it appears on every product picture.
A design studio with customer sign-in
Pick a template or upload your own artwork, design on the product itself, front and back, and place the order. A person checks every file before it prints. Customers sign in with a link sent to their email, no password, and their saved designs follow them from phone to laptop.
Design on the card, see it on the card
The editor on the left, the finished product on the right. A customer builds the print-ready file themselves instead of describing it over the phone.
What we can honestly say so far
What we learned
The agent was first called Erin. A real caller heard "Aaron" and lost two turns of the call to it, so she became X, a name nobody mishears. Small things like that only show up on live calls.
Spam was the other lesson. This shop's customers are businesses, so "Hi, it's Jack from a window cleaning company" is usually a customer. The agent now judges a call by what is being asked for: wanting something from the shop is a customer, offering something to it is a pitch.
The rules that matter (no prices, no promised dates, no confirmed orders) are checked by 59 automated tests against the live agent, so a change that breaks one gets caught before a caller hears it.
Run a shop like this? Hear the agent first.
